Lunch and learn

Digits LLC and EscapeWire Solutions will host a "Lunch and Learn" program titled "Data Security to Prevent Data Breach." It's set for noon, Dec. 6 at Doubletree Inn, 10 Flint Road, Amherst. Presenters will include Michael McCartney, president and CEO of Digits, and Mike Beecher, president of EscapeWire Solutions. McCartney will outline what he calls unscrupulous actions that can happen to businesses that don't take proper security measures.

"Even after the damage is done, it is important to understand the steps you need to take to avoid litigation and data breach notification requirements, as well as the steps to preserve valuable electronic evidence," he said.

Beecher will outline best practices that firms should implement to protect their networks and internal data. He will review current data protection technologies and how to build a simple yet effective backup and disaster recovery plan.

"For many companies, data and network protection is out of sight, out of mind. Very few think they will ever have a data breach or data loss and therefore don't take the very simple but necessary steps to protect their firm's most valuable assets - their electronic data," he said.
