A Sunoco gas station and convenience store located in the shadow of Buffalo City Hall is about to welcome a new Subway outlet.
The Buffalo Planning Board, when it meets Nov. 22, will consider a proposal from local architect Lawrence Senear. He designed a 3,000-square-foot addition to the store, located at 211 Niagara St. The expanded area will house some additional beverage coolers, new retail space and a Subway franchise. It will be Subway's third downtown location to open in recent years.
"It definitely fills a need in the neighborhood," Senear said. "There's been a lot of new projects around the station and the Subway will add to what's already being offered here."
The project has already been approved by the Buffalo Zoning Board of Appeals. With the expected planning board approval, construction could start within six weeks, according to Senear.
"The owner is anxious to get this going as quickly as possible," he said.
The addition and Subway should be open by midwinter.
