ALSP sets network meeting Sept. 7

The Buffalo chapter of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals will host a mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Sept. 7 at Cabaret, 490 Pearl St., Buffalo. Those interested in learning more about the organization are encouraged to attend. The ALSP brings together legal support professionals of all types for monthly meetings geared toward bettering the legal community and expanding the knowledge of legal support professionals. Minority Bar Awards set for Sept. 8

The Minority Bar Association of Western New York will honor the winners of its 2011 awards and scholarships at the 29th annual celebration, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Sept. 8 at Rich's Renaissance Atrium. Among the award winners are: William Battle, of Bryant & Stratton College, who will receive the President's Award; Judge Paula Feroleto, administrative judge for the 8th Judicial District, recipient of the Legal Service Award; Sherryl Weems, executive director of the Educational Opportunity Center, and Larry Gingrich of the University at Buffalo, Community Service Award; and Tamara Wright, a second-year law student at the University at Buffalo Law School, winner of the John L. Women's Bar installation ceremony

The Western New York chapter of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York will hold its annual installation of officers and directors in conjunction with an awards ceremony. It's scheduled for Sept. 22 at The Buffalo Zoo. Among the award recipients will be Judge Erin Peradotto, who will be honored with the M. Dolores Denman Lady Justice Award, and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, who will receive the President's Award. The chapter also will install its newly elected officers, including incoming President Tammy Riddle, a litigator with Hogan Willig PLLC. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the cost to attend is $75 for members and $90 for non-members. For more information, call Bridget O'Connell at 866-0282.

Minority Bar releases judicial ratings

The Minority Bar Association of Western New York released its judicial ratings for candidates seeking election for Buffalo City Court, Erie County Family Court and New York State Supreme Court. They are:

New York State Supreme Court: Patrick NeMoyer, Superior

Erie County Family Court: Sharon LoVallo, Well-qualified; Patricia Maxwell, Superior

Buffalo City Court: Gillian Brown, Qualified; Susan Eagan, Well-qualified; Joseph Fioella, Superior; David Manz, Well-qualified; Robert Russell, Superior

The judicial rating of each candidate is based on the evaluation of a questionnaire completed by the candidate, a personal interview with him or her, a survey of the members of the Minority Bar and a survey of the members of the local bar.
