Kenney Shelton Liptak Nowak LLP closed on its deal to buy and renovate the historic Calumet Building, an anchor in the Chippewa Entertainment District.

According to documents filed in the Erie County Clerk's office, the law firm - through its 52 Chippewa LLC affiliate - paid $705,000 for the 24,000-square-foot, 105-year-old building. It had been owned by Calumet Properties Inc. and Jumping Cow Enterprises LLC, entities run by restaurateur Mark Goldman and Buffalo attorney Arthur Ziller.

Patrick Kenney, one of the firm's founding partners, said he expects the renovations to begin later this winter, with work to be completed by the fall.

Kenney Shelton Liptak Nowak will move from the Rand Building, where it leases 12,000 square feet, to the upper floors of the Calumet. With the move, the firm will increase its office space by 33 percent. It has been a tenant of the Rand Building since the firm was formed in 1994. Total staff exceeds 50.

Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant will remain on the Calumet's first floor, anchoring the retail/restaurant portion of the building.

The deal was jointly brokered by Alan Hastings of Hastings Cohn Real Estate and Anthony D'Auria of Waterbourne Real Estate Advisors LLC.
