A long-established credit union in Niagara County is changing its name and opening membership opportunities to more people as it seeks to grow beyond its current size.
Niagara DuPont Employees Credit Union became Encompass Niagara Credit Union as of Dec. 21, following approval from the state Banking Department. It also received the go-ahead to convert from a multi-employer common bond to a community-based common bond serving Niagara County. Its membership is now open to people who live, work, volunteer, go to school or worship within county boundaries.
The credit union, founded in 1934 for DuPont Co. employees, will also move its Niagara Falls location from 2551 Buffalo Ave. to 2525 Military Road. It currently has three employees, 973 members and $10.8 million in assets, according to data from the National Credit Union Administration.
