LEGAL BRIEFS: Four U.S. attorneys honored with awards

Four assistant U.S. attorneys from the Western New York office were recently recognized for professional accomplishments.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathleen Lynch was named one of the Top 11 Irish Lawyers. The Irish Legal 100 is an annual list created by Irish Voice Newspaper to honor legal professionals worldwide. Lynch has been with the office since April and previously worked for the WNY Law Center for 11 years.

Three other assistant U.S. attorneys - Paul Campana, Marie Grisanti and Trini Ross - were honored at the annual Federal Law Enforcement Foundation Awards in New York City. Campana and Grisanti were recognized for their work leading to the indictment and conviction of former Niagara Falls Mayor Vincent Anello. Campana has been with the U.S. attorney's office for 23 years and Grisanti has served since 2002, after spending nine years as an assistant district attorney in Niagara County. Ross was recognized for her work in prosecuting former City of Tonawanda Police Captain James Litz on multiple civil rights violations.

Dash honored for pro bono work

Johanna Dash, an attorney with Rupp Baase Pfalzgraf Cunnigham & Coppola LLC, received the 2010 Pro Bono Award from the Judiciary of Western New York. She was honored for her work representing low-income clients in civil cases.

WNYPA general meeting set for Nov. 16

The Western New York Paralegal Association will hold its November general membership meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Presenting at the meeting will be Harry Meyer, chairman of the Unlawful Practice of Law Committee of the Bar Association of Erie County. He will discuss "The Unauthorized Practice of Law Related to Paralegals." The meeting is scheduled noon to 1 p.m. at Hodgson Russ LLP, 140 Pearl St., in the Fillmore Conference Room. NYSBA program in Buffalo Nov. 18

The New York State Bar Association will hold its next CLE program in Buffalo on Thursday, Nov. 18. The program is titled: "Expert Testimony - What You Need to Know in New York" and provides an update on statutory and case law affecting the admissibility of evidence and expert testimony, among other topics. The CLE is scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.at the Holiday Inn, 1881 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst. Cost is $165 for members, $250 for non-members and $60 for students. Participants can earn seven CLE credits - three for professional practice and four for skills. For more information, see www.nysba.org/cle.
