Man guilty of robbery spree that began in Buffalo

Thu, Oct 7th 2010 12:00 am
A Lowell, Mass., man who began a three-month bank-robbing spree in Buffalo pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine, to 11 counts of bank robbery.

Robert Ferguson admitted robbing 11 banks and credit unions in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine. He was arrested July 14, one day after robbing the Bangor Savings Bank in Orono, Maine.

He began his string of robberies April 9 when he walked into the M&T Bank Fountain Plaza branch downtown and demanded cash from the teller. He fled the scene on foot and later robbed 10 more banks on the East Coast.

Once in custody and charged with the robbery in Maine, Ferguson was presented with the evidence linking him to the additional robberies and opted to plead guilty.

He will remain in custody pending sentencing. No sentencing date has been set.
