Bar Association offers CLE on power of attorney law

Mon, Sep 6th 2010 12:00 am
The Elder Law and Trusts and Estates Law sections of the state Bar Association will present the CLE program "New York's Power of Attorney Law After the August 2010 Technical Corrections Bill" from noon to 1 p.m., Sept. 8 in Albany.

A panel will review the new Power of Attorney (POA) Technical Corrections law recently signed by Gov. Paterson. The new measure reportedly corrects flaws, difficulties and inconsistencies created by New York's 2009 POA statute. The roundtable discussion can be viewed via live Webcast or attended in person at the Ssate Bar Center at One Elk St., Albany.

Panelists are members of the Bar's POA Working Group, which in 2009 authored a report highlighting the problems addressed in the 2010 Technical Corrections law. They include: chair of the POA Working Group, Kathryn Grant Madigan of Levene Gouldin & Thompson LLP ; Michael Amoruso, Amoruso & Amoruso; Ira Mark Bloom; Justice David Josiah Brewer, Albany Law School; and Richard Howe, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP.

The CLE program is $85 for state Bar members; $70 for members of the Elder Law and Trusts and Estates Law sections; and $125 for nonmembers. Participants earn 1.0 MCLE credit hour of professional practice.

Note: Newly admitted attorneys must attend the session in person to receive credit.
