Syracuse Law School receives $15 million gift

Mon, Jul 26th 2010 12:00 am
SYRACUSE (AP) - The three adult children of a couple who decades ago graduated from Syracuse University's law school are donating $15 million to their parents' alma mater.

University officials said Tuesday that the donation will go toward building the new $90 million College of Law on the Syracuse campus. It's the largest donation in the history of the 115-year-old law school.

The donation is being made by Carolyn Dineen King of Houston, Robert E. Dineen Jr. of Sherman, Conn., and Kathryn Dineen Wriston, whose hometown wasn't released by the university. They're making the donation in the names of their parents, Robert Emmet Dineen, a 1924 graduate of Syracuse law school, and Carolyn Bareham Dineen, class of ‘32.

The elder Dineen, who grew up in Syracuse and worked as an insurance company executive, died in 1989. His wife was a Rochester native who died in 2001.
