Customs officials seize 47 lbs of Ecstasy at border

Thu, Feb 25th 2010 12:00 am
LEWISTON (AP) - Federal officers say they found 47 pounds of Ecstasy stashed in a car at the U.S. border and arrested its Canadian driver.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says 77,856 tablets worth $1.5 million were detected with X-ray technology at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge Feb. 19. They were in the rear quarter panels wrapped in cellophane, dryer sheets and electrical tape.

The 53-year-old driver, Rawle Younge of Brampton, Ont., said he was on his way to New York City before undergoing a secondary inspection. He's in custody on charges of importation and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

A niece, Janelle Younge, reached Monday, said Younge was driving a rental vehicle, and said she doubted that the pills were his.
