Trade agency to review Kodak patent complaint
Associated Press
ROCHESTER - The U.S. International Trade Commission will investigate Eastman Kodak Co.'s complaint over digital-camera technology used in iPhones and BlackBerrys.
The agency said Wednesday it will weigh whether to block imports of the phones after Kodak alleged that Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Research in Motion Ltd.'s camera-enabled BlackBerry models infringe on a 2001 patent covering ways to preview images.
In December, Kodak negotiated royalty deals with Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. In mid-January, it sued Apple and RIM after failing to negotiate patent-royalty deals with the two companies.
Kodak has filed separate lawsuits against Apple in U.S. District Court in Rochester, claiming infringement of patents related to digital cameras and some computer processes. It's asking for unspecified monetary damages and a court order to end the disputed practices.
