Mutual of Omaha waging wild trademark battle
The insurance company and creator of the "Wild Kingdom" television program is suing MeadWestvaco Corp. in U.S. District Court. The lawsuit alleges that MeadWestvaco is wrongly capitalizing on Mutual's investment and is likely confusing customers by selling a "Wild Kingdom" calendar. Mutual says it has held the trademark to use the Wild Kingdom name on printed items since 2004.
A phone message for a MeadWestvaco representative wasn't immediately returned.
Mutual created the television program in 1963. According to the lawsuit, Mutual also has long produced several products tied to the show, including a calendar.
