ROCHESTER (AP) - A Rochester man who beat his girlfriend's 16-month-old daughter to death has been sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison.

Abner Gomez was convicted of second-degree manslaughter in the death of Jasmine Velez.

The family had asked Gomez to watch the girl on the day she was killed.

The little girl's aunt said after the court hearing that she was disappointed that Gomez didn't get a more severe sentence.

Gomez says he is innocent.
