Nassau DA: Fake real estate agent rented out home he didn't own
Authorities say the suspect collected more than $10,000 before the scheme concluded.
Ozell Neely was set to be arraigned Tuesday on burglary, grand larceny and other charges. The name of his attorney was not immediately on record.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says the suspect took the prospective tenant to the Baldwin house in September 2008. He claimed he'd lost the key and used bolt cutters on a chain-link fence to get in.
The tenant stopped paying rent in April during a dispute over repairs. That's when the eviction proceedings began.
The real owner found out in June and contacted prosecutors.
