Moog Inc. is one of several manufacturers named in five lawsuits filed against pain-pump makers and pharmaceutical companies.

Arnold & Itkin LLP, a Houston-based litigation firm, filed the lawsuits in Los Angeles County Superior Court on behalf of 28 people who say they used pain pumps to alleviate pain after shoulder surgery, according to a press release. The lawsuits allege fraud, breach of warranty and products liability against the manufacturers, saying the makers continued to market the pumps as pain mitigation for shoulder joints despite not being approved to do so by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Additionally, the plaintiffs allege that the pain pumps cause postarthroscopic glenohumeral chondrolysis, or PAGCL, which destroys cartilage in the joints that connect the arm to the shoulder.

Besides Moog, which is based in East Aurora, other pain-pump manufacturers named in the lawsuit include Stryker Corp. in Michigan, Orthofix Inc. in London, Linvatec Corp. in Florida and Sgarlato R.P. Inc., I-Flow Inc., Breg Inc. and DJO Inc., all in California.
