Volunteers honored by VLP, LSED

A pair of law-oriented nonprofits honored several people and organizations Thursday at their joint Champions for Justice Bash, held at the Rich Renaissance Atrium.

The ECBA Volunteer Lawyers Project gave several Pro Bono Awards, while Legal Services for the Elderly, Disabled or Disadvantaged of Western New York gave several Champions for Justice awards.

The VLP gave awards to:

Tracie Covey, Ruth Ritchell Memorial Award for in-house volunteer attorneys.

Jennifer Stergion, Attorney of the Morning award for landlord-tenant law.

Paul Pochepan, Bankruptcy Award.

Mindy Marranca, Divorce Award.

Leah Bouguard and Noemi Fernandez-Hiltz, Family Law Awards.

C. Kenneth Foit, V.I.P. Award.

Tracey Ehlers and Kevin Kruppa, Litigation Awards.

Frank Callocchia, Immigration Award.

• Damon & Morey, Large Law Firm Award.

Legal Services for the Elderly presented five awards:

• Anthony Szyczygiel, a professor at the University at Buffalo Law School, Volunteer of the Year.

• Dr. Steven Evans of Family Choice New York, Medical Partner of the Year.

• M&T Bank, Corporate Partner of the Year.

• Cliff Whitman, former commissioner of the Erie County Department of Senior Services, Vision Award.

• People Inc., Collaborative Partner of the Year.
