Numbers of home sales dip, but prices are rising

Thu, Oct 22nd 2009 12:00 am
Home sales slipped 4 percent in the Buffalo area last month, according to a report from the Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors.

A total of 926 homes were sold in September 2009, compared to 963 in the same month a year ago.

Sales for the year to date are also running 4 percent behind last year. Sales from January through September totaled 7,595 in 2009, which trailed the pace of 7,874 sales set in 2008.

Housing prices, on the other hand, continue to rise. The typical home sold in the Buffalo area last month went for $114,900. That's 4 percent higher than the median price of $110,000 in September 2008.
