Kaye to lead review of SUNY-Binghamton athletic program

Mon, Oct 12th 2009 12:00 am
ALBANY (AP) - Retired New York Chief Judge Judith Kaye will lead an independent review of Binghamton University's athletic program.

University President Lois DeFleur called for the audit after the releases last month of star basketball player Emanuel ‘‘Tiki'' Mayben, who's facing drug charges, and five of his teammates.

State University of New York officials say Wednesday that Kaye, who retired as chief judge of the state's top court at the end of last year, will lead the review and investigation. It will be overseen by the executive committee of the SUNY board of trustees.

Kaye now is of counsel to the New York City-based law firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom. As head of the Court of Appeals, she also oversaw operations of New York's court system.
