State: Social worker viewed data about son's rape victim

Thu, Oct 8th 2009 12:00 am
ALBANY (AP) - New York state Inspector General Joseph Fisch says a former social-services worker has been arrested and accused of illegally looking up confidential state information about her son's rape victim.

Investigators say Victoria Munson, of Johnstown, made dozens of illegal computer searches of state social-service and motor-vehicle databases from 2007 to 2009 while working for the Fulton County Department of Social Services.

Fisch says many inquiries sought confidential information about witnesses or people related to the arrest and conviction of her son, 25-year-old Nicholas Munson. The agency says he's in state prison on rape and weapons charges.

Victoria Munson is charged with felony computer trespass and official misconduct, a misdemeanor. She didn't immediately return a call for comment.
