Court OKs Delphi deal
Business First
Delphi Corp. has won court approval to sell its assets to its lenders and General Motors Co.
The deal, approved Thursday by a Bankruptcy Court judge in New York City, clears the way for the auto supplier to end its four-year stay in bankruptcy.
Delphi, of Troy, Mich., is the parent of Delphi Thermal Systems in Lockport, the Buffalo Niagara region's largest manufacturer, with 2,100 employees.
Delphi hopes to close the sale by Sept. 30. The plan calls for Delphi Thermal, a Delphi plant in Rochester, and two others to again become part of GM.
Delphi was formed in 1999 when General Motors spun off its parts unit.
On Wednesday, the judge overruled most of more than 1,900 objections to Delphi's reorganization plan.
Those objections came from union groups concerned about workers' pensions, and from various state tax and workers' compensation agencies.
