NY court posting arguments on Web

Beginning tomorrow, all New York Court of Appeals oral arguments will be available on live Webcasts.

Public-information officer Gary Spencer says the move is part of an ongoing effort to make the court proceedings as accessible as possible.

"In the past, we have done Webcasts of select high-profile cases," Spencer said, "including death-penalty cases, the gay-marriage case and, most recently, the America's Cup (case)."

Spencer said limitations in staffing will keep the court from archiving all of the Webcasts for the time being, so those interested in watching will need to do so in real time.

This week, the court will hear arguments Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 2 p.m.  Thursday's Webcast will have a local flavor as the court hears Buffalo Crushed Stone v. the Town of Cheektowaga, a dispute over land use.
