WHITE PLAINS (AP) - A 71-year-old insurance agent has admitted he stole $5,900 from a suburban New York bank. Police say he wore Groucho Marx-style glasses as a disguise.Edward Solomon pleaded guilty Wednesday in Westchester County Court to third-degree robbery. He likely will be sentenced to time served and probation.
Solomon lived in a large house in Ossining and used his Lexus SUV as a getaway car after the Jan. 16 heist in Peekskill.
When he was arrested, Peekskill police Chief Eugene Tumolo theorized that many people with comfortable lifestyles would resort to "extreme measures" in a recession.
But defense lawyer Barry Warhit says the crime should be viewed in the context of family tragedy. A relative of Solomon's had committed suicide a month earlier.
