Groper ID'd from cell photo

Mon, Apr 13th 2009 12:00 am
NEW YORK (AP) - New York City police say they have arrested a suspect caught on a cell-phone camera after he groped a woman on a subway train during the morning rush hour.

Police say the 33-year-old woman boarded a W train in the Queens neighborhood of Astoria Tuesday. She told police a man sitting next to her on the Manhattan-bound train fondled her buttocks. As she got off at Queensboro Plaza, she snapped a cell-phone photo of him.

The suspect was spotted at a subway stop in Queens by another woman who recognized him from the image, and he was arrested Wednesday. Police say the man has at least 30 prior arrests for sexual abuse, robbery, assault and theft.

He is being held at the transit precinct and charges are pending.
