Library sorry after breast-feeding mom is scolded

Mon, Mar 30th 2009 12:00 am
NEW YORK (AP) - A Brooklyn public library was forced to apologize to a mother after a security guard twice scolded her for breast-feeding her daughter in a children's book area.

The library transferred the guard and sent a letter of apology to 34-year-old Danielle Glanville, a Brooklyn school teacher who had contacted the New York Civil Liberties Union and threatened legal action.

An NYCLU spokesman says that under state law, women have the right to breast-feed anywhere.

A library spokesman says a memo explaining women's breast-feeding rights has been circulated to all library staff.
