Women's Bar's Menge Award goes to Mooney

Sheri Mooney of Damon & Morey LLP will receive the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York's 2009 Marilyn R. Menge Award this spring.

The annual award, based on voting by the association's 18 chapters, goes to a member who has made valuable and significant contributions to a chapter or to WBASNY statewide.

Mooney is a former president of WBASNY's Western New York chapter. She's a partner in the litigation department at Damon & Morey, and focuses her practice on defending corporations in personal-injury matters at the trial and appellate level.

The Menge Award will be presented at the 2009 WBASNY Convention June 4-7 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. Questions regarding the convention should be directed to Natalie Grigg at nataliegrigg@gmail.com.

Best Lawyers names Lawyers of the Year

Best Lawyers in America, the oldest peer-review publication for the legal profession, announced its list of 2009 Lawyers of the Year. Among the 499 lawyers across the nation to receive the new distinction were six Buffalo lawyers honored as the "best" in their area of expertise.

They are: Patrick O'Reilly of Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria LLP, recognized in the field of family law; Terrence Connors of Connors & Vilardo LLP, for his work in personal- injury litigation; Robert Fleming Jr. of Hodgson Russ LLP, for his work in corporate law; Harry Meyers, also with Hodgson Russ, real estate law; Raymond Seitz of Phillips Lytle LLP, banking law; and Paul Zuydhoek, also with Phillips Lytle, in the category of bet-the-company litigation.

Hiscock researcher speaking at seminar

Elaine Knecht, director of information resources at Hiscock & Barclay LLP, will be a presenter at the Find it Free and Fast on the Net: Strategies for Legal Research on the Web seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute.

The seminar is designed to provide practical skills for finding key information on the Internet for lawyers and other professionals conducting legal research. The event will be held March 25 in Buffalo; March 26 in Rochester; and March 27 in Syracuse.
