Former Genesee town justice accused of theft

Mon, Feb 16th 2009 12:00 am
AMITY (AP) - A former Southern Tier town justice is accused of stealing more than $11,000 in court fines and surcharges and altering records to cover it up.

State police arrested 43-year-old Cheryl Napora Tuesday after a state comptroller's audit uncovered the thefts.

Authorities say Napora stole the money from Genesee Town Court in Allegany County between 2005 and 2008. She resigned from the bench in December.

Napora was released following her arraignment in Amity Town Court on one count each of grand larceny and official misconduct and multiple counts of falsifying business records.

She did not return a call to her Bolivar home.
