For 2nd time, NY man sentenced for killing wife

Thu, Nov 20th 2008 12:00 am
NORWICH (AP) - A 39-year-old man is getting 25 years to life in state prison for killing his wife in 2002 and staging the crime to look like she crashed into a lake and drowned.

It's the second time Peter Wlasiuk has been sentenced for the death of his 35-year-old wife, Patricia.

Wlasiuk was convicted of murder in 2003, but that verdict was overturned by a state appeals court and a new trial was ordered. He was convicted again in September.

Wlasiuk has been in custody since April 2002. Hon. Martin Smith says his more than six-and-a-half years behind bars will count toward his sentence.

Prosecutors say Wlasiuk smothered his wife on their property in Oxford in April 2002, put her in the bed of his pickup truck and pushed the truck into Guilford Lake.
