Sabre puts muscle into PSA
Business First
Buffalo Sabres forward Andrew Peters and his wife, Erin, are featured in a new public-service announcement for the Family Justice Center of Erie County Inc.
The announcement,"Children Who See Too Much," is targeted toward child witnesses of domestic violence. It refers families to the Justice Center, which, through its partnership with the Child Advocacy Center, offers assessment and referral services.
This is the second such message Peters has done for the center. Last season he was in a spot that ran for about three months on the center-ice scoreboard during games.
The message he conveys, according to Family Justice Center Executive Director Linda Ray, is that if violence is prevalent in their home, there's a place to call for free, confidential services.
"When kids see him fight on the ice, they know it's a game, but when it's at home, they know it's anything but," she said. Ray said her organization has been bolstered by a financial commitment made by the Sabres Foundation, and the spot with Andrew and Erin Peters was produced at the arena by Sabres in-house staff. She is hopeful that the piece will eventually land on local TV.
And if not?
"We feel good knowing all the home games are sold out, so a fair number of people will see the message. If we get through to a handful, it'll be worth it."
The center is also targeting abuse among senior citizens with a series of ads on bus shelters and buses.
"This is a problem across the entire age spectrum," said Ray.
