Westchester nanny gets prison for violently shaking youngster

Mon, Oct 13th 2008 12:00 am
GREENBURGH (AP) - A nanny in Westchester County who shook a toddler so hard that he suffered a brain hemorrhage has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore says Bibi Safeena Zaman of the Bronx was sentenced Wednesday. She pleaded guilty in July to reckless assault of a child, a felony.

The little boy, Rehan Karnani, was injured on April 7. The nanny claimed at first that he had fallen down the stairs.

After she gets out of prison, Zaman will undergo three years of court-ordered supervision. The judge also has issued an order of protection to keep Zaman away from the family through 2021.
