Testimony ends in retrial of NY woman's 2002 death

Mon, Sep 29th 2008 12:00 am
NORWICH (AP) - Testimony is over in the retrial of an Upstate New York man charged with killing his wife in 2002.

A Chenango County Court jury began considering the fate of Peter Wlasiuk Thursday after hearing closing statements. They went home that evening after deliberating for about 3½ hours.

Wlasiuk was convicted in 2003 of killing his wife, Patricia, and staging it to look like she'd crashed into a lake and drowned.

Wlasiuk was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, but the conviction was overturned in 2006.

Among the final defense witnesses was Dr. Michael Sikiric, a forensic pathologist who said Patricia Wlasiuk's death was caused by asphyxiation by drowning and was not a homicide.

Two others pathologists testified that her death was a homicide.
