DWI charges dismissed against diabetic woman

Thu, Sep 18th 2008 12:00 am
BELLEROSE (AP) - New York officials have admitted they made a mistake when they posted the name and photo of a diabetic woman on a "Wall of Shame" Web site of motorists arrested for drunken driving.

Andrea Sangermano, a resident of Bellerose, was arrested over Memorial Day weekend. A Long Island judge dismissed the charges Sept. 11 after officials said her erratic driving was the result of complications from diabetes.

Sangermano has declined to comment, and her attorney, Elizabeth Kase of Garden City, did not immediately return calls.

Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi said, "This is the first time this has happened, and we are terribly sorry to Ms. Sangermano."
