Fundraiser to benefit Hoelscher's two sons
Buffalo Law Journal
Friends are holding an Irish "hooley" in memory of the late Gregory Hoelscher next week to raise funds for his sons' educational needs.
The fundraiser will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday on the third floor of the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, 76 Pearl St., Buffalo.
Hoelscher, a lawyer who maintained a solo personal-injury practice, died April 16. He was a father to two sons with his wife, Annette: Jesse, a senior at St. Francis High School, and two-year-old Jude.
"Greg's passing was sudden and unexpected. We thought his children would probably need some assistance in their educational needs as they grew up," said Brian Sutter, a lawyer at Sugarman Law Firm LLP.
Sutter and Hoelscher worked together for 10 years at the law firm now known as Roach Brown McCarthy & Gruber PC.
They had been classmates at the University of Notre Dame and at the University at Buffalo Law School, from which they graduated in 1986. Sutter said Jesse hopes to follow in his father's footsteps by attending Notre Dame.
Sutter said the fundraiser is an example of what colleagues in the legal community do for one another.
"I think sometimes lawyers take it on the chin, but this is an example of what we do for the benefit of one of our own," he said. "We're just hoping to have a nice turn out and get-together in his honor."
Tickets, at $50 per person, include food and drink. To attend, send payment to the Hoelscher Children Education Fund, c/o Peter Sigurdson, 583 Exchange St., Alden, NY 14004.
