Lawyer found guilty of stealing paintings, including a Cezanne

Thu, Aug 21st 2008 12:00 am
BOSTON (AP) - A retired Massachusetts lawyer has been found guilty of possessing six valuable paintings that had been stolen from a home in 1978, including a still life by Paul Cezanne.
Robert Mardirosian of Falmouth was found guilty by a federal jury in Boston Monday.
The 74-year-old faces a maximum of 10 years in prison at sentencing, scheduled for Nov. 18. He said outside court that he expected a conviction, but plans to appeal.
Prosecutors say a former client of Mardirosian's stole the paintings from a Stockbridge house in 1978.
Mardirosian's attorney says his client was simply trying to return the paintings to their rightful owner and collect a finder's fee.
