NY Police: Former SU hoopster stole acquaintance's credit card

Mon, Aug 18th 2008 12:00 am
WESTMORELAND (AP) - State police are charging a former Syracuse University basketball player with stealing a credit card from a woman who gave him a car ride on the New York State Thruway.

Twenty-two-year-old Josh Wright is charged with felony fourth-degree grand larceny. Troopers say Wright took the woman's credit card from her purse before she dropped him off in Westmoreland on June 24. Troopers say the woman knows Wright.

Wright tried to use it to pay a $465 cell-phone bill, according to a state police statement Wednesday.

Wright was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in court Aug. 27 after he gets a lawyer.

A one-time starter, Wright quit the basketball team last December after his playing time was reduced to a few minutes a game.
