Former UB Law prof returns to discuss latest legal thriller
Buffalo Law Journal
A former University at Buffalo Law School professor will return to campus today to discuss his new novel, "A Patent Lie" (Doubleday, 2008).
Stanford Law School Professor Paul Goldstein will speak at an invitation-only luncheon hosted by the Baldy Center for Law & Social Policy and later appear at a public book reading and signing at 7 p.m. at Talking Leaves, 3158 Main St., Buffalo.
Goldstein, who was a UB Law professor from 1967 to 1975 and serves of counsel to Morrison & Foerster LLP, said he'll talk about how he selected the themes and characters for his legal thriller about patent infringement litigation, which is based partly in Buffalo.
The novel, released on June 17, continues the saga of Michael Seeley, the hero of Goldstein's earlier novel "Errors and Omissions" (Doubleday, 2006). After the high-powered Manhattan lawyer returns to Buffalo to open a solo practice, Seeley agrees to take on a patent-infringement lawsuit regarding an AIDS treatment for an upstart biotech company fighting a large pharmaceutical company.
