Men sentenced for causing asthma death during robbery

Mon, May 19th 2008 12:00 am
CANTON (AP) - Two northern New York men have been sentenced to 20 years each in state prison for triggering another man's fatal asthma attack during a robbery attempt.

Matthew Clothier and Jared Gilbert, both 21 and both from Parishville, were sentenced in St. Lawrence County Court May 12 for causing the death of Chung Hua on June 15.

Both men pleaded guilty in March to manslaughter and burglary charges in a deal with prosecutors.

Authorities say the 26-year-old Hua suffered an asthma attack after the two men broke into his home in Potsdam and Clothier hit him on the head with the butt of a shotgun.

Investigators said the assault was drug-related.
