Police say NY deliverymen stole hundreds of iPhones

Mon, Jan 28th 2008 12:00 am
NEW YORK (AP) - Police have arrested two deliverymen who they say stole hundreds of Apple Inc. iPhones and sold them on New York streets to finance a move to Florida.

Nassau County police say the two men worked for a Valley Stream company that was to ship a box containing 300 phones to Hong Kong.

Instead, police say, the men pried open the boxes they were packed in, replaced them with reams of paper and sold them for cash, jewelry, sneakers and used cars with matching maroon paint. The phones retail for $399 each.

Police say the two deliverymen, both in their 20s, were arrested on charges of grand larceny and conspiracy.

None of the phones have so far been recovered.
