Hacker pleads guilty to felony over deletion of client's data

Thu, Dec 27th 2007 12:00 am
A Tonawanda man has entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court for hacking into the computer system of a Buffalo company.

Lee James Garvin, 30, faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, or both, after appearing before Chief Judge Hon. Richard Arcara.

The U.S. attorney's office said Garvin had a business relationship with Uniform NameMakers Inc. until the fall of 2006. The defendant was responsible for the embroidery company's computer hardware and software.

Prosecutor Martin Littlefield said after the business deal failed, Garvin was able to obtain remote access to the company's system and deleted all electronic records of its clients.

Garvin is to be sentenced on April 11.
